It is important that all employees be inducted
into training and development programs in order to improve their job related
knowledge, skills, and performance. The need for training and development in the hospitality industry as noted by Yalokwu (2006), Sentoo (1997) and Ezeani
(2006) are given thus:
ii.

needed skills, which builds up confidence and satisfaction. This in turn
develops enthusiasm and pride, which are indicative of high morale.
iii.
Availability of skilled workforce
for future personnel needs of the organization: Good training and development programmes develop
employees and prepare them for future managerial and executive responsibilities
positions. Accordingly, when the need arises for personnel changes, the
internal sources can be utilized more effectively.

environment, since experience and knowledgeable workers, are less prone to

themselves, they are responsible and expect more freedom and autonomy and less

There is no greater organizational asset than that of trained and motivated employees.
In modern hotel business, it is all about competence in people, and especially the employee qualities. The level of service quality depends on the qualities of employees. The qualities are about knowledge, skills, and thoughts which lead to a hotel’s survival and development. Therefore, staff training is essential in many ways; it increases productivity while employees are armed with professional knowledge, experienced skills, and valid thoughts; staff training also motivates and inspires workers by providing employees all needed information in work as well as help them to recognize how important their jobs are. Training and development can be seen as a key instrument in the implementation of Human resource management practices and policies. Successful hotels always include staff training as their important development strategy.

Learning and Development (L&D) is an integral part of employee and customer satisfaction strategies in the hospitality sector. It has, however, taken years for F&B establishments and hotel chains to establish L&D departments, and most still struggle to identify a substantial business need. Without strong Learning and Development (L&D) programs, employees may have a harder time being productive, moving up in the organization, and contributing to financial performance. Additionally, it can also lead to lower employee engagement and increased turnover. I would like to raise one question regarding L&D. How do you think modernizing learning measurement impact on employer and employee?
ReplyDeleteConnecting learning analytics to business data has traditionally been contingent on time-consuming, expensive data warehouse projects or hundreds of person hours going through spreadsheets and generating reports from various HR systems. Both methods involve long and tedious processes, which prevent L&D teams from quickly acting on data so they can proactively make decisions that could impact the bottom-line.
DeleteAnother option is to look into cloud-based learning analytics technology, which connect HR and business systems together, and offer the end-to-end view needed to quickly answer L&D’s critical questions and measure their total contribution to business goals.
Access to those kinds of insights will not only help L&D run more efficiently, but business leaders will also have the facts needed to properly invest in their employees career development.
Other than to above mentioned details training and development suppose to reduce the employee turn over in hospitality industry. It cost time and money to hire, onboard and train new employees. When the employees are receiving good training it make them to make hassle free working environment for them. It increases the employee enthusiasm and efficiency on work automatically. Therefore I think when HR leaders allocate more time for ongoing employee trainings it would gain advantage for the company in different ways as I mentioned.
ReplyDeleteAnd also to improve the guest services training and development is compulsory. As we all know negative online reviews can lose many guess at least without any stay. This can badly affects for the company’s image. Trained staff on customer service skills improves the experience and satisfaction of a customer’s stay.
Not only that, through these training and development process management will able to educate their employees regarding the cultural values in the company. In hospitality industry this is very important factor as their employees are dealing with people from different ethnics. It provides employees to grow and succeed within the industry.
Agreed with you, if proper training is conducted, people in panic can be managed better, preventing the worst scenario from happening. With great training comes happier, better performing, and more loyal staff – and happy hotel staff means satisfied customers.
DeleteThis is a good article. Learning and development's final purpose is creating Talented, Skillful, and Motivated employees who stay with you for a long time. that reduces the labor turnover.
ReplyDeleteThat is true, provides opportunities for career development and job enrichment -both of which are likely to increase motivation and job satisfaction while reducing turnover. Training also leads to more ongoing commitment from your employees, which also results in decreased turnover.
DeleteEvery hospitality organization needs well-trained employees. Guests expect it, and employees are now choosing employers based on the training and professional development they offer.

DeleteTraining programs can also help prepare employees who are moving into higher roles and taking on more responsibilities in an organization. These programs will help them learn the skills that are required to function effectively in their new positions.
